F-Gas Qualification

City and guilds 2079-11 Category 1 F-Gas qualification

 

Meets the requirement of EC 517:2014 Law in England and Wales. Both theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to work on stationary refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump equipment containing fluorinated F-Gas and ozone depleting substances are assessed. The course aims to reduce direct and indirect greenhouse emissions by studying:
 

  •  Safety, hazards when handling gases. 

  •  Legal requirements, global environment and energy saving. 

  • Identifying terms, principles, units and thermodynamics.

  • Identify different systems, applications, components and leakage risks.

  • Fabricate and install pipe work, pressure test, evacuation and record results.

  • Undertake HFC charging, leak checking, monitor system performance and record results.

  • Undertake recovery of refrigerant and oil and prepare for disposal and record results.

 

Assessment - is in two parts:
Theoretical - 40 question closed book evolve on line electronic examination.
80 minutes duration. 
Practical - fabricate, install refrigeration quality pipe work, purge with N2, use oxy/acet. Brazing equipment, pressure leak test using N2 to EN378, evacuation to below 2000 microns, charging HFC zeotropic blend, set controls, monitor plant and record details. Recovery of HFC and oil.
180 minute duration. 

F Gas course for Category 1 and 2

for less experienced engineers.

Cost per person £420.00+VAT 1 Day Course:
available to engineers who have proven experience or an expired CITB J11

 

Category 3 and 4 Certificates:
One day training and assessment for maintenance engineers who carry out non evasive leak testing on HCFC and HFC systems as required under the F Gas Regulation. Cost per person £420.00+VAT

City and Guilds 6090-30

Diploma in Refrigeration, Air Condition and Heat Pumps Level 3.

This course is for apprentices who have successfully completed 6090-20 or experienced engineers who hold a 7189-02 wishing to continue studying Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heat Pump systems to a higher level. Candidates will study:
 

  • 301 Understand system selection and application

  • 302 Understand complex systems DX, Flooded, VRF/VRV, Cascade/Compound

  • 303 Commission complex systems and evaluate performance

  • 304 Work planning-structure of different organisations

  • 305 Electrical systems and types of control

  • 306 Plan for career progression in RACHP

  • Apprentices only-At the end of their course apprentices will go through a ‘gateway’ process where they are signed off by their employer as ready for their final assessment. This includes: workplace observation, a portfolio of work, practical tests, professional discussions and an on-line examination.

 

Assessments:

On line City and Guilds E-evolve multiple choice tests, practical assignments and a log book.

Attendance: 5-day block release sessions.  Dates TBA

Apprentices: A lead provider will guide the employer through the funding arrangements and will administer the funding of each apprentice.

Non apprentices: A total of 6 number attended 5 day blocks.

City and Guilds 7543-01

City and Guilds 7543-01 Mobile Air Conditioning

 

This course meets the minimum requirements of regulation EC 307/2008 for mechanics to handle HFC R134a and HFO 1234yf refrigerants used in cars, buses, coaches, farm vehicles etc.

The City and Guilds half day course assessment comprises of oral questioning and a practical test using a charging station. The course covers:
 

  • Health and Safety

  • Vehicle preparation

  • Identification of major components

  • Refrigerants and environmental considerations

  • Recovering refrigerants and record keeping

 

The City and Guilds 7543-01 is a nationally recognised qualification.

City and Guilds 7189-02

Diploma in Refrigeration, Air Condition and Heat Pumps Level 2

This course is for engineers who wish to improve their practical skills and technical knowledge of Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heat Pump Systems. This qualification also enables engineers to quality for CSCS Blue Card.

Candidates will study:

  • Health and Safety in BES

  • Scientific Principles within RAC and HP systems

  • Functions and features of RAC and HP systems

  • Install and commissioning of RAC and HP systems

  • Service and maintenance of RAC and HP systems

  • Electrical systems for RAC and HP systems

  • Handling fluorinated gases for category 1 personnel

  • Communication within BES

 

Assessments:

On line City and Guilds E-evolve multiple choice tests and practical assignments.

City and Guilds 6090-20

Diploma in Refrigeration, Air Condition and Heat Pumps Level 2

This course is for 16-19 age group wishing to pursue a career in the Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heat Pump (RACHP) industry.

 

This qualification the new ‘Trailblazer’ initiative set up by the government to promote apprenticeships.

Learners will require an initial assessment before starting the programme to identify if they are a fully signed up apprentice with their company, have any specific training needs that require support which may include functional skills in maths and English.  

Candidates will study:

  • 201 and 501 Health and Safety in BES

  • 202 Principles of RACHP systems

  • 203 Vapour Compression Systems

  • 204 Functions and features of RACHP systems

  • 205 Service and maintenance of RACHP systems

  • 206 Installation of RACHP systems

  • 207 Electrical systems for RACHP systems
     

Assessments:
 

On line City and Guilds E-evolve multiple choice tests, practical assignments and a log book.
 

Attendance 5-day block release sessions.

Progression-successful completion will enable candidates to progress onto 6090-30 level 3

Pipe Work & Brazing

City and Guilds 6187-21 Pipe work and Brazing.


This course covers the manipulation and jointing of refrigeration quality copper pipe work in accordance with EN14276-1:2006, The PressureE quipment Directive and EN 378.

 

Training is provided in both practical and the theoretical working practices. The assessment involves a closed book multiple choice 35 question paper and a practical test as follows:

 

  • Produce risk assessment and method statements

  • Select PPE.

  • Inspection of brazing equipment, select appropriate nozzles, filler metals and flux materials.

  • Pipe preparation, nitrogen purging brazing copper to copper and dissimilar metals.

  • Cutting, preparing and inspecting 4 number test pieces.

Essential Electrics

UK Certification- Essential electrics for refrigeration engineers

 

This 2 day course combines two electrical modules ELEC 2 and ELEC 5 awarded by UK Certification Limited.

The programme of study involves both theoretical and practical sessions with assessments which act as proof of competence under Regulation 16 of the Wiring Regulations 1989.
 

Elec 2 Compulsory core module

  • Health and safety. Safe isolation

  • 4 wire 3phase and 1ph supplies

  • Test instruments used on refrigeration components eg relays, timers, contactors, heater and motors

  • Resistive, inductive and capacitive loads

  • Earthing, bonding and circuit protection

  • Practical wiring and appliance installation and electrical testing procedures

Elec 5 Refrigeration Module

  • Single phase motor starting IRIR,CSIR, CSR

  • Three phase motor starting DOL, Star/Delta/Part winding and inverters.

  • Power and control circuits. 415 v, 240v and 24 volt circuits

  • Practical chiller control circuit wiring

  • Compressor inspection for fault finding.

  • Electrical testing, commissioning and fault rectification

 

Assessments comprises of the following:
 

Elec 2    7 practical tasks and a 17 question multiple choice test paper.

Elec 5    5 practical tasks and a 10 question multiple choice test paper

A certificate and I.D.card will awarded upon the successful completion of this course.

Unvented Hot Water Storage Systems

UK Certification in Unvented Hot Water Storage Systems.

 

This one day course is for service engineers who work on unvented hot water systems and need to comply with The Building regulations-Approved document G (Section G3).

The course will provide you with the installation and safety requirements to inspect, commission and service both direct and indirect cylinders and rectify common faults.

UK Certification certificates are recognised by Building Regulations, Approved documents (section G3) and accepted by Local Building Control as evidence of competence.

Courses are approved by WRAS and UK Certification Limited certificates are valid for 5 years.

 

Assessment:

Four practical tasks involving both installation and service procedures and a 36 question multiple choice open book examination.
